GENERAL CONSIDERATIONS

Browser Tune-up:
An Important First Step!
Each time you login to Vista, click on the Check Browser link located in the upper right hand corner of the screen. Be sure that you have a green check beside each option. A red “x” indicates areas that require changes. Links to instructions or downloads are provided.

• Enable Pop-Up Windows
  For WebCT Vista to work properly pop-up windows must be enabled. Be sure to disable pop-up blocker software or include http://vappsrv-prd.umassonline.net as a safe address.
• Java Software
  Java software is required for WebCT Vista to run properly. If the browser checkup indicates a problem with Java:
  • Windows users visit http://www.java.com/en and click Download Now button and follow the onscreen instructions.
  • Macintosh OS X users can install the latest version of Java by visiting http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/java/ and clicking on the java link.
• PC Users
  Be sure that your operating system and applications are up to date.
  • Visit the Windows updates page for Windows operating systems.
  • Microsoft Office users should visit the Microsoft Office updates page. Click on the Check for Updates button.
  • Keep your anti-virus software up to date.

FILE NAMING CONVENTIONS

All files that you link in your WebCT Vista section must be in a format that is useable on the web and names of files and folders must be alphanumeric and must not contain any special characters.
